Cultivating Happiness at Home

Fun with Family!

Share Joy With Others!

Many of my clients find it challenging to experience happiness in their lives. They often attribute this difficulty to the political climate, the loss of community since COVID, and a lack of creative outlets that allow them to escape stressful events and environments, both physically and mentally.

Home should be a place that relieves distress and brings laughter! It is meant to be our safe space. However, if we cannot relax there, it can easily become a source of stress, carrying the weight of negative emotions and upsetting experiences. Here are some suggestions for making your home a safe haven once again.

1. **Clean and Declutter:** Start by cleaning your house and decluttering the spaces you use most frequently. Look for books on decluttering and watch YouTube videos that explore this topic; there are countless hacks to help you feel better about your space. Studies show a strong correlation between clutter and stress or depression.

2. **Refresh Your Walls:** If your walls look dirty, take the time to clean and paint them. This small investment can make a significant difference in how an area feels. If you tend to experience depression, I recommend opting for light, airy colors that allow natural light into your rooms. Our eyes need to perceive light in order to maintain a happy mindset!

3. **Share Joy with Others:** If you live with people you enjoy, spend more time laughing and playing together. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of laughter in your life; it can truly change the atmosphere of your home. Activities such as playing games, having conversations, and watching favorite movies together can help. You’ll notice a positive change once you make this a priority and keep that promise to yourself.

While we cannot control much of what happens in life, nurturing a passion or engaging in activities that uplift you is a form of self-care. It's easy to neglect the things that bring you joy when life becomes demanding and stressful. Today, take a moment to think about how you can create space for what you love.
